20 February 2025

Dear

Over the past three years Better Border Health (BBH) in conjunction with Border Medical Association (BMA) have been actively advocating for a solution to our community’s dire health woes. A Master Plan was developed in 2021, in consultation with clinicians and other key stakeholders, that recognised the need for a new, purpose built, greenfield hospital site as the optimal choice for our community.

As further detail becomes available there is growing awareness of the inadequacies of the proposed Brownfield redevelopment.

Albury and Wodonga Councils, in conjunction with other local councils, have committed to making a public stand to highlight the very real concerns regarding our underfunded and inadequate health service. A rally will be held on 5th March 2025. To add weight to this plea to Parliament, we are looking to local businesses like yourself to join the call. Your business stands to be significantly impacted by inadequate access to a robust, fully functioning and well-equipped medical service. This call to action is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of local families, staff, friends and neighbours, to protect our welfare and guarantee the ongoing viability of our commercial sector.

We humbly request that you join us in our call for the NSW and Victoria State Governments to pause the brownfield rebuild, rethink the plan and invest in a health service that will meet our community needs now and into the future.

We ask that you sign our supporting document so that together we can send a clear message to our NSW and Victorian State Governments that our community will not settle for a damaged, underfunded and inadequate health service.

Yours sincerely

Co-operative statement of support for a new hospital on a new site – Albury Wodonga hospital

As a member of the Albury-Wodonga community, I am in support of a new hospital on a new site for the Albury Wodonga Health region. I believe that this solution is imperative to the health and wellbeing of our region.

I stand with the Border Medical Association, Better Border Health, Albury Council, Wodonga Council and other local councils, in calling for a new hospital on a new site. The proposed staged redevelopment of the current Albury campus does not provide a guarantee of appropriate care, services and facilities for patients and health services either during the staged redevelopment or into the future.

In calling for a new hospital on a new site, I acknowledge the hard work and dedication of our health professionals who work across the Albury Wodonga Health service. I understand that working in sub standard facilities indefinitely has a significant, detrimental impact on their mental health, stress levels and impedes their ability to provide the best possible health outcomes to their patients. I am grateful for their commitment and dedication.

I support the call :

  • to pause the current plan
  • to install modular wards to address the critical bed shortage
  • for both State authorities and all tiers of Government to work collaboratively to foster and facilitate the best possible health service for our region and the residents thereof
  • to build a new hospital on a new site to better provide for our residents health outcomes

I believe that this solution is imperative to the health and wellbeing of our region.
